What is an Aboriginal Learning and Engagement Centre (AL&EC)?
We create a study space for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students to connect and apply the strength of their cultural identity while at school. AL&ECs provide the academic, cultural, and wellbeing support to students to achieve their goals.
AL&ECs are committed to maintaining and celebrating Aboriginal cultural identity while supporting educational success.
What are the benefits of our AL&EC?
Our AL&EC is empowering Aboriginal students to excel in their education while celebrating their cultural identity. From academic support to cultural enrichment programs, AL&ECs are making a real difference in Aboriginal students' lives.
How can your child be involved in our AL&EC?
Join us in fostering a supportive environment where every student feels valued, empowered, and inspired to reach for the stars. We are located in GG02, behind the fitlab and opposite the Yarning Circle.
Upcoming Yarn Up BBQs
Our yarn up is a chance for staff to meet with community members and their students they mentor for their Personalised Learning Plan (PLP).

Personalised Learning Plans
What is a PLP?
PLPs are an active and continuous process. They are developed in consultation and collaboration with the student, families and teachers, to identify, organise and apply personal approaches to learning and engagement for success.
PLPs can have short term and/or long-term goals. Short term goals can be specific stepping stones to reach long term goals. Essential to this process is the monitoring, reviewing and celebration of goals achieved and setting of new goals to ensure our Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students are always progressing in a forward motion.
Who is involved in the PLP?
Every student at Lake Munmorah High School is known, valued and cared for by our staff. For our identified Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students we have individual teaching and support staff mentor each student to create their PLP.
